Our Programs
Food For All Services (FFA) is a Maine-based nonprofit that provides culturally relevant, Halal, and identity-affirming food access to underserved communities across the state. Through a range of integrated programs—including a free pantry, grocery store, Halal school meal network, mosque-based distribution, and a forthcoming cultural hub—FFA connects families to nutritious food rooted in culture, dignity, and wellness. We source from local farms, African diaspora vendors, and multicultural grocers to reflect the true diversity of the communities we serve.
Nyumbani Community Pantry
Located on the first floor, this pantry offers Halal, culturally familiar groceries for free, no questions asked. Fresh produce, dry goods, and hygiene items are restocked weekly with donations and contributions from local stores.
Roots & Rhythm Cultural Hub
Located on the second floor of our Portland facility, the Roots & Rhythm Cultural Hub is being developed with support from the Mellon Foundation. This future space will host African storytelling events, culinary demonstrations, yoga and wellness workshops, and workforce training for BIPOC food workers. It will be a place to nourish not just bodies, but culture and community.
Cultural Relevant Store
Also on the first floor, this mission-based store provides 50% off vegetables for SNAP/EBT customers. Other shoppers support the pantry through full-price purchases. Inventory is shaped by direct community feedback.
Halal School Meals Network
Based on the second floor, FFA leads the U.S.'s first third-party certified Halal school meals program for K–12 students. Our certification covers Portland, South Portland, and Westbrook school districts. We work with kitchens to offer Halal, vegetarian, and vegan options.
Community Food Distribution
Every two weeks, FFA delivers Halal, identity-affirming groceries directly to one of Portland’s three local mosques. This rotating distribution program ensures that community members can access nutritious food where they already gather, pray, and build relationships. It’s one more way we center dignity, trust, and accessibility in food delivery.
